on board

Since 1995, Lufthansa German Airlines and the state of Rheinland-Pfalz have been cooperating to support the presence of German wines on board of Lufthansa flights. During 2003 / 2004, Louis Guntrum already supplied 2002 NIERSTEINER AUFLANGEN RIESLING SPÄTLESE TROCKEN to Lufthansa for service in their Economy class cabin. Today, we are proud to announce, that our wines are even served on intercontinental flights on Lufthansa – in their 1st class cabin!

2004 NIERSTEINER PATERBERG SILVANER EISWEIN has been chosen by the Lufthansa tasting panel as the best dessert wine presented to them during their blind tasting. As of January 2006, this outstanding wine will be served in LH 1st class.

The presentation of all four wines, which have been chosen by Lufthansa for their in-flight service, took place at the Lufthansa base at Frankfurt Rhein-Main airport. Markus Del Monego, MW and World Champion of Sommeliers in 1998, conducted a first tasting of all wines on the ground. Later on, the same tasting took place again on board a Lufthansa Boeing 737-500 at 10.000 metres flying altitude. The aim of this presentation to the media and press was, to show, how our human perception changes on board of an airplane. And indeed, all wines showed significantly different in the air, compared to their appearance on the ground. However, all wines, and particularly LOUIS GUNTRUM 2004 SILVANER EISWEIN showed excellent flavours both on the ground and in the air.

We are proud to once again have been chosen as a partner to LUFTHANSA.
